Napier's trademark is its art deco architecture built following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that savaged the city in 1931. Few places in the world have such a broad representation of the art deco style within such a confined space which is why Napier is known as the art deco capital of the world. Every year in February this distinctive period style is celebrated with a fun and frivolous celebration.
